Note: We urge the Jews to turn to Christ, as all must to be saved; there is no other way to life but to enter His Holy Catholic Church: "Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all." (Colossians 3:11).

THE ONCE-CHOSEN PEOPLE ARE NOW THE ACCURSED RACE

"Christ shall be slain, and the people who shall deny Him shall not be His." ~ Daniel 9: 26

The Gentiles ... have attained to justice, even to the justice is of the faith. But Israel ... has not come unto the law of justice. Why so? Because they sought it not by faith... For they stumbled at the Stumbling Stone. ~ Romans ix.30-32

The Jews knew that Christ was the son of David. And even now they hope for His Coming. It is hidden from them that He has come, but it is hidden because they willed it so. For, not acknowledging Him on the cross, the knowledge of Him reigning in glory should not be theirs ... Why are the Jews hoping for what has already come, and not fearful for what is to come? For Our Lord Jesus Christ ... referred Himself as "the Stone" (Matthew xxi.44), that whoever stumbles upon it shall be bruised; but upon whom it shall fall, it will grind to powder ... Lying on the ground, it shakes whoever falls over it; coming from on high, it crushes the proud. The Jews have already been shaken by their previous stumble. What awaits them is to be crushed by His Coming. ~ St. Augustine

Many shall come from the East and West and sit down with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of Heaven, but the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into the exterior darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. ~ St. Matthew viii.11-12

There is need of constant prayer lest we defect from the heavenly kingdom, as have the Jews to whom it was first promised. This the Lord makes unmistakably clear by saying: "Many will come from East and West and recline at the banquet table with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of Heaven, whereas those born to the kingdom will be driven into the darkness outside, there to wail and gnash their teeth" ... Our Lord shows that the Jews were formerly children of the kingdom, but after the name "Father" disappeared from among them, so did the kingdom. The Jews have remained in darkness for having forsaken the light. ~ St. Cyprian

The "exterior darkness" is that of the Jews, who have heard truth but not believed. ~ St. Thomas Aquinas

Jews prefer to persist in their stubbornness rather than to recognize the words of their prophets and the mysteries of the Scriptures and thus arrive at a knowledge of the Christian faith and salvation. ~ Bl. Pope Gregory X

The Jews are deprived of these good things, for they are not brought to life by Christ; for sin remains unwashed away in them; neither do they advance unto the kingdom of Heaven since they have dishonored Christ Who is the Guide to Heaven. For they did not believe Him when He said: "I am Way" and "I am the Door." ~ St. Eusebius of Caesaria

Whence the Gospel says: "Two women shall be grinding at the mill; one shall be taken and the other left" (Matthew xxiv.42). The Holy Church shall be taken up into eternal rest: she who has ground the food of holiness unto the Lord. The Synagogue, stained with blood, shall be left at the mill, to endure its own unfaithfulness forever. ~ St. Maximus of Turin

The faithlessness of the Synagogue is an insult to the Savior. Therefore, He chose the barque of Peter and deserted the boat of Moses; that is, He rejected the faithless Synagogue and adopted the believing Church ... Of these two ships, one is left at the shore, idle and empty; the other, loaded filled, is launched into the deep. For the Synagogue is left idle on the beach. Because of its own fault, it has lost Christ along with the warnings of the prophets. But the freighted Church is taken out into the deep, because it received the Lord together with the teaching of the Apostles. The Synagogue, I say, remains on the land, held fast as it were to earthly things. The Church is called forth to the deep, as though to search into the profound mysteries of Heaven. ~ St. Ambrose

Two nations are in thy womb, and two peoples shall be divided out of thy womb; one people shall overcome the other, and the elder shall serve the younger. ~ Genesis xxv:23

Who is this younger child that overcomes the elder but the Gentiles, who struggle with Juda ... and who, though only the child of promise, supplants him who was the son according to the flesh? ~ Pope St. Leo the Great

The Jews formerly had only the shadow of things; we have the reality. The Jews were servants; we are adopted children. The Jews passed through the sea to a desert; we enter through Baptism into a Kingdom. The Jews ate manna; we eat Christ. The Jews ate the flesh of birds; we eat the Body of God. The Jews ate the dew of heaven; we eat the God of Heaven! ~ Salvianus

In what sort of reproach, then, are the Jews? A Jew carries The Book, by which the Christians may believe. They have become our librarians, just as servants are accustomed to carry books behind their masters. The servants faint by carrying them, while the masters grow strong by reading them. ~ St. Augustine

Go, so that cured by Christian faith, you may not die in Jewish unfaith, but may live forever with Jesus Christ Our Lord. ~ St. Peter Chrysologus

For, raging against the Gentiles as unclean, Israel became in very truth unclean themselves; while the Gentiles have become clean, the justice of Israel has become like the rag of a menstruous woman. ~ St. Basil the Great

Early and often did the Lord send His messengers to them, for He had compassion on His people ... But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His warnings, and scoffed at His prophets, until the anger of the Lord against His people was so inflamed that there was no remedy. ~ II Paralipomenon xxxvi.15-16

God, Who ... in times past spoke by the prophets, last of all in these days hath spoken to us by His Son ... Last of all, He sent them His Son, saying: "They will reverence My Son" ... But, taking Him, they cast Him forth and killed Him. When therefore the Lord shall come, what will He do to those men? ... He will bring those evil men to an evil end, and he will let out His vineyard to other husbandmen who shall render Him fruit in due season ... Therefore I say to you, that the kingdom of God shall be taken away from you and given to a nation yielding the fruits thereof. ~ Hebrews i.1-2 St. Matthew xxi.37-43

Christ annuls the first Covenant to establish the Second. ~ Hebrews x.9

For the Jews, still clinging to that sacrifice which is according to the Order of Aaron, let slip that sacrifice which is according to the Order of Melchisedech, and they lost Christ. And the Gentiles, to whom He had not hitherto sent His heralds [?], began to possess Him. ~ St. Augustine

Since the Jews, through their evil designs against the Savior, have been cast away from grace, He has built out of the Gentiles a second holy Church: the Church of us Christians. ~ St. Cyril of Jerusalem

When the offspring of the Jews abandoned the customs of the their fathers, the truth abandoned them and took refuge in the Church. It abandoned them when they said of the Lord Jesus: "Away with Him! Crucify Him!" for they gave up truth and chose iniquity. ~ St. Ambrose

So clearly was the transition then made from the Synagogue to the Church that, when the Lord gave up His soul, the veil of the Temple was rent in two. ~ Pope St. Leo the Great

Therefore, the Jewish system is destroyed, for it was only a shadow; but that of the Church is firmly established, for it is built on the Rock, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it. ~ St. Athanasius

A conspiracy is found among the men of Juda and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem. They have returned to the former iniquities of their fathers who refused to hear My words. Thus, they likewise have gone after strange gods, to serve them; the House of Israel and the House of Juda have made void My covenant which I made with their fathers. ~ Jeremias xi.9-10

My people did not hear My voice, and Israel harkened not to Me ... They gave Me gall for My food, and in My thirst they gave Me vinegar to drink ... Let their eyes be darkened, and their back bend down always. Pour out Thy indignation upon them: let Thy wrathful anger take hold of them. Let their habitation be made desolate, and let there be no One to dwell in their tabernacles, because they have persecuted Him Whom Thou hast smitten, and they have added to the grief of My wounds. Add Thou iniquity upon their iniquity; and let them not come into Thy justice. Let them be blotted out of the Book of the Living, and with the Just let them not be written. ~ Psalm lxxx.12; lxviii.22-29

Dreadful are the ends of a wicked race! ~ Wisdom iii.19

And the Lord said. This people is stiffnecked. Let Me alone, that My wrath may be kindled against them, that I may destroy them. ~ Exodus xxxii.9

You stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Ghost; as your fathers did, so do you also. Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? And they have slain them who foretold the coming of the Just One, of Whom you have now been the betrayers and murderers. ~ Acts vii.51-52

What is your iniquity, O daughter of Jacob, that your chastisement is so severe? You have dishonored the King and the King's Son, you shameless one, you harlot! ~ St. Ephrem

Since His spouse, the Synagogue, refused to receive Him, Christ answered: "This is a harlot!" And He gave her a bill of divorce, as we read in Isaias (50:1): "Thus says the Lord: Behold, you are sold for your iniquities; and for your evil deeds have I put your mother away. Because I came and there was not a man; I called and there was no one who would hear." And so the Jews, the sons of the harlot, were repudiated. ~ St. Vincent Ferrer

You shall cry out in that day from the face of the king whom you have chosen for yourselves, and the Lord will not hear you on that day because you desired unto yourselves a king. ~ I Kings viii.18

I have come in the name of My Father, and you receive Me not. If another shall come in his own name, him you will receive... But they cried out: "We have no king but Caesar!" ~ St. John v.43; xix.15

The wretched Jews cried out: "We will not have this man to reign over us!" (Luke xix.14). We, on the contrary, desire to proclaim in the face of Heaven and earth: "We want Thee, Lord Jesus, to reign over us!" ~ St. John Eudes

They have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them...They have forsaken Me and served strange gods. ~ I Kings viii.7-8

My people, what have I done to you? Or in what way have I offended you? Answer Me. What more could I have done, and did not do? I led you out of the land of Egypt, and you prepared a cross for Me. I opened the Red Sea before you, and you opened My side with a lance. I gave you a royal scepter, and you have given Me a crown of thorns. With great power I lifted you up, and you have hung Me upon a gibbet. My people, what have I done to you, or in what have I offended you? ~ Reproaches of Good Friday

What more is there that I ought to do to My vineyard that I have not done to it? ... And now I will show you what I will do to My vineyard: I will take away its hedge and it shall be wasted; I will break down its wall, and it shall be trodden down. ~ Isaias v.4-5

Ungrateful for favors and forgetful of benefits, the Jews return insult for kindness and impious contempt for goodness. They ought to know the yoke of perpetual enslavement because of their guilt. See to it that the perfidious Jews never in the future grow insolent, but that they always suffer publicly the shame of their sin in servile fear. ~ Pope Gregory IX

This people hath sinned a heinous sin, and they have made to themselves gods of gold. ~ Exodus xxxii.31

Jews are the living words of Scripture for us, for they remind us always of what Our Lord suffered. They are dispersed all over the world so that, by expiating [?] their crime, they may everywhere be the living witnesses of our redemption ... Wherefore, the Church says: "Scatter them by Thy power, and bring them down, O Lord" (Psalm lviii.12). These words have been fulfilled literally: the Jews are dispersed, humbled, and reduced to hard servitude. ~ St. Bernard

Crucifiers of Christ ought to be held in continual subjection. ~ Pope Innocent III

It would be licit, according to custom, to hold the Jews in perpetual servitude because of their crime. ~ St. Thomas Aquinas

The Jews, whom Holy Church tolerates in diverse parts of the world in testimony to Jesus Christ, wish to persevere in their hardness and blindness rather than acknowledge the words of the prophets and the mysteries of the Holy Scriptures, and to come to the knowledge of the Christian faith and salvation. ~ Pope Martin V

Let the Gospel be preached to them and, if they remain obstinate, let them be expelled. ~ Pope Leo VII

Let their eyes be dim so that they cannot see, and let them walk bent-backed forever with a heavy load. ~ Psalm lxviii.24

The Jews wander over the entire earth, their backs bent and their eyes cast downward, forever calling to our minds the curse they carry with them. ~ St. Augustine

The Lord made Cain a wanderer and fugitive over the earth, but set a mark upon him, making his head to shake, lest anyone finding him should slay him. Thus the Jews, against whom the blood of Christ calls out, although they ought not to be killed, nevertheless, as wanderers they must remain upon the earth until their faces are filled with shame and they seek the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. ~ Pope Innocent III

Thou shalt eat bread ... and cover it with the dung that cometh out of a man ... Thus shall the children of Israel eat their bread all filthy among the nations wither I will cast them out, saith the Lord. ~ Ezechiel iv.12-13

They shall not please the Lord ...and their sacrifices shall be like the bread of mourners: all who eat it shall be defiled. ~ Osee ix.4

Jews are beheld scattered throughout the whole world: they have been punished for no other reason than for the impious hands they laid on Christ. ~ St. Sulpicius Severus

The Jews, who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and have persecuted us, do not please God, and they are adversaries to all men, prohibiting us from speaking to the Gentiles that they may be saved, to fill up their sin always: for the wrath of God has come upon them to the end. ~ I Thessalonians ii.14-16

It has come to pass that the last condition of Israel is worse than the first for, as the Savior's disciple says (II Peter ii.21-22), it would be better for them not to have known the way of justice than, after they have known it, to turn back from that holy commandment which was delivered to them. For the true Proverb has happened to them: the dog has returned to his vomit, and the sow that had washed has returned to her wallowing in the mire (Proverbs xxvi.11). And from what they afterwards dared to do, it is plain to see that the Jews have swallowed their vomit and turned again to wallow in their ancient mire and relapsed into the errors of Egypt, for the Evil Spirit has again entered into them, and their last state has become worse than their first. ~ St. Cyril of Alexandria

*We are told by the Apostle that when the time is ripe all Israel shall be saved. But those who die beforehand will remain in death. ~ St. Bernard

I knew in my faith that the Jews were accursed and condemned without end, except those who were converted. ~ Bl. Juliana of Norwich

One who dies a Jew will be damned. ~ St. Vincent Ferrer

Unless over-and-above the commandments of the Old Law, you also fulfill the precepts of Christ, you shall not enter into the kingdom of Heaven. ~ St. Thomas Aquinas

For, if we still live according to Judaism, we must confess that we have not received grace. ~ St. Ignatius of Antioch

There are some Sacraments giving salvation, and others only promising a Savior. The Sacraments of the New Testament give salvation, the Sacraments of the Old Law promise a Savior. ~ St. Augustine

Therefore, thus says the Lord God of Israel: Behold, I will bring on evils upon Jerusalem and upon Juda, that whosoever shall hear of them, both his ears shall tingle ... because they have done evil before Me and have continued to provoke Me from the day their fathers came out of Egypt even unto this day. ~ IV Kings xxi.12,15

Jesus, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, did afterwards destroy those who did not believe ... Woe unto them! For they have gone the way of Cain ... carried about by winds ... raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own confusion, wandering stars to whom the storm of darkness is reserved forever. ~ St. Jude 5, 11-13

I hold that those of the seed of Abraham who live according to the Law of Moses and who do not believe in Christ before death shall likewise not be saved; and especially shall they not be saved who curse this very Christ in the synagogues and who curse everything by which they might obtain salvation and escape the vengeance of fire. ~ St. Justin the Martyr

O most wretched man! You know very well that on the Day of Judgment the crucified God Whom you blaspheme will send you to Hell! ~ St. Theodoret of Antioch

Cursed shall you be in the city, cursed in the field. Cursed be your barn and cursed your stores. Cursed shall be the fruit of your womb, the fruit of your ground, the herds of your oxen, and the flocks of your sheep. Cursed shall you be coming in and cursed going out. ~ Deuteronomy xxviii.16-19

Jews are cursed and covered with malediction as by a cloak. The curse has penetrated them like water in their bowels and oil in their bones. They are cursed in the city and cursed in the country, cursed in their coming in and cursed in their going out. Cursed are the fruits of their loins, of their lands, of their flocks; cursed are their cellars, their granaries, their shops, their food, the very crumbs off their tables! ~ St. Agobard

Let their table be made a snare, a trap, a stumbling block, and a recompense to them. ~ Psalm lxviii.23

Having turned from the Jews, the Lord will now abide in the hearts of the Gentiles. Accordingly, they who hate Him are passed by, and they who love Him are preferred before them. ~ St. Ambrose

Be it known to you, therefore, that this salvation of God is sent to the Gentiles. ~ Acts xxviii.28

O Jews! Your impiety has served our salvation. The death of Christ liberates us; it accuses you. You alone, by right, lack that which should be lost to everyone. ~ Pope St. Leo the Great

The Jews, therefore, not only made themselves strangers to the covenants, but also dishonored the Father and killed the Son in envy. The Prophet invites the congregation of the House of Israel to praise Him, but they went about to kill Him and hastened to do evil. ~ St. Ephrem

It may be that the Jews, looking for another Christ, will laugh at our wisdom; for of them the Prophet has rightly said: "Their sepulchers shall be their houses forever" (Psalm xlviii.12). They laugh now, but they shall weep, for they shall weep when they look upon Him "Whom they have pierced" (Zacharias xii.10). ~ St. Amphilocius of Iconium

Well should the Jew mourn who, not believing in Christ, has assigned his soul to perdition ...The Jews have crucified the Son and rejected the Holy Ghost, and their souls are the abode of the devil. ~ St. John Chrysostom

Behold, I tell you that, if you be circumcised, Christ will be of no advantage to you. ~ Galatians v.2

The most holy Roman Church firmly believes, professes, and teaches that the Mosaic Law ... cannot be observed without the loss of eternal salvation ... Everyone, therefore, who observes circumcision and the Sabbath and the other requirements of the Law, the Church declares not in the least fit ... to participate in eternal salvation. ~ Council of Florence

For if the Law were not taken away, the leprosy of the soul would never be healed; because each one who lives under the Law is a leper. ~ St. John Chrysostom

Do not add to your sins by saying that the Covenant is both theirs and ours. Yes, it is ours, but they lost it forever. Assuredly, God gave the Covenant to the Jews, but because of their sins they were not worthy to receive it. Moses received the Testament, but the Jews were not worthy. ~ St. Barnabas

The Jews were unworthy to perceive the meaning of the divinely-inspired Scriptures which speak of the mystery of Christ. And because they had taken no notice of the truth, they made themselves unworthy of the salvation which flows from Christ. ~ St. Cyril of Alexandria

No man cometh to he Father but by Me. ~ St. John xiv.6

And this is God's commandment, that we should believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ ... Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is Antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. Whosoever denies the Son does not have the Father. ~ I St. John iii.23;ii.22-23

Those who deny the Son thereby deny also the Father. ~ St. Athanasius

I testify to every man who calls upon God but rejects His Son, that his faith is vain; for he who has not believed in the Son does not believe in the Father. ~ St. Basil the Great

He who honors not the Son, honors not the Father Who sent Him. ~ St. John v.23

God abhors those who refuse to offer to His Son the honor they pretend to pay to Himself. ~ St. Amphilocius of Iconium

If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. He who hates Me, hates My Father also ... If you believe not that I am He, you shall die in your sin. ~ St. John xv.22-23;viii.24

They who refuse to believe in Christ are insane. ~ Bl. James of Voragine

All who do not confess Christ to be the true God shall be cast into eternal flames. ~ St. Martial of Limoges

If anyone does not worship the Crucified One, let him be anathema and numbered among the deicides. ~ St. Gregory Nazianzen

If any man love not Our Lord Jesus Christ, let him be anathema, maranatha. ~ I Corinthians xvi.22

Since this wicked generation did not know that it should repent, but daily became more wicked, its last state was worse than its first ... The evil and adulterous generation of the Jews were to be condemned because of their hard and unrepentant hearts. ~ St. Bruno

The hearts of the unbelieving Jews do not even yet by any means acknowledge Christ to be God and, harder than flintstones, they will not be broken by repentance. ~ Pope St. Gregory the Great

For all the House of Israel is a hard forehead and an obstinate heart. ~ Ezechiel iii.7

O Jewish hearts, harder than rocks! ~ St. Ambrose

The heart of this people has grown gross, and with their ears they have heard heavily, and they have shut their eyes lest perhaps they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart. ~ Acts xxviii.27

God has given them the spirit of insensibility: eyes that they should not see and ears that they should not hear, unto this present day. ~ Romans xi.8

O intelligence coarse, dense, and, as it were, cow-like, which did not recognize God, even in His own works! Perhaps the Jew will complain that I call his intelligence bovine. But let him read what is said by the prophet Isaias, and he will find that his intelligence is even less than bovine. For Isaias says: "The ox knows his Owner, and the ass knows his Master's crib; but Israel has not known Me, and My people have not understood" (i.3). You see, O Jew, I am easier on you than your own prophet. I have compared you to brute beasts, but he places you even below them! ~ St. Bernard

Nor is it sufficient that we call Him Who is in Heaven "Father." We must add to the name "Our Father." This name rebukes and condemns the Jews who not only spurned Christ faithlessly, but also cruelly executed Him Who was announced to them by the prophets, and sent first to their nation. No longer may they call God their Father, because the Lord confounds and refutes them, saying: "Your father is the Devil" (John viii.44). O sinful nation, O people weighed down with guilt, breed of evil-doers, lawless children, you have turned your backs on the Lord and have provoked the Holy One of Israel! We Christians at prayer say "Our Father," since He has begun to be ours, but ceased to be the Father of the Jews who have forsaken Him. There is no way a sinful nation can be His children; on the contrary, that title is bestowed on those to whom remission of sins has been granted and to whom eternal life has been promised. ~ St. Cyprian

Canon Law forbids all intercourse with Jews. ~ Bl. Bernardine of Feltre

Indeed, if any one of the clergy or faithful has taken a meal with Jews, it is determined that, as a corrective punishment, he is to abstain from Communion so that he may be reformed. ~ Council of Elvira

How dare Christians have the slightest intercourse with Jews, those most miserable of all men. They are lustful, rapacious, greedy, perfidious bandits -- pests of the universe! Indeed, an entire day would not suffice to tell of all their rapine, their avarice, their deception of the poor, their thievery, and their huckstering. Are they not inveterate murderers, destroyers, men possessed by the devil? Jews are impure and impious, and their synagogue is a house of prostitution, a lair of beasts, a place of shame and ridicule, the domicile of the devil, as is also the soul of the Jew. As a matter of fact, Jews worship the devil: their rites are criminal and unchaste; their religion a disease; their synagogue an assembly of crooks, a den of thieves, a cavern of devils, an abyss of perdition! Why are Jews degenerate? Because of their hateful assassination of Christ. This supreme crime lies at the root of their degradation and woes. The rejection and dispersion of the Jews was the work of God, not of emperors. It was done by the wrath of God and because of His absolute abandonment of the Jews. Thus, the Jew will live under the yoke of slavery without end. God hates the Jews, and on Judgment Day He will say to those who sympathize with them., "Depart from Me, for you have had intercourse with My murderers!" Flee, then, from their assemblies, fly from their houses, and, far from venerating the synagogue, hold it in hatred and aversion. ~ St. John Chrysostom

Whosoever does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is Antichrist, and whosoever does not profess the testimony of the cross is a devil, and whosoever perverts the saying of the Lord to his own evil desires ... is the first-born of Satan. ~ St. Polycarp of Smyrna

By their malice, the Scribes and Pharisees and princes of the Jews were a considerable hindrance to the salvation of the people, both because they opposed Christ's doctrine, which was the only way to salvation, and also because their evil ways corrupted the morals of the people. ~ St. Thomas Aquinas

Judaism, since Christ, is a corruption; indeed, Judas is the image of the Jewish people: their understanding of Scripture is carnal; they bear the guilt for the death of the Savior, for through their fathers they have killed Christ. The Jews held Him; the Jews insulted Him; the Jews bound Him; they crowned Him with thorns and dishonored Him by spitting upon Him; they scourged Him; they heaped abuses upon Him; they hung Him upon a tree. ~ St. Augustine

The Jews are enemies of God and foes of our holy religion. ~ Padre Pio

Jews are slayers of the Lord, murderers of the prophets, enemies and haters of God, adversaries of grace, enemies of their fathers' faith, advocates of the devil, a brood of vipers, slanderers, scoffers, men of darkened minds, the leaven of Pharisees, a congregation of demons, sinners, wicked men, haters of goodness! ~ St. Gregory of Nyssa

If someone should kill the beloved son of a man, and then stretch forth their hands still stained with blood to the afflicted father, asking for fellowship, would not the blood of his son, visible on the hand of his murderer, provoke him to just anger instead? And such are the prayers of the Jews, for when they stretch forth their hands in prayer, they only remind God-the-Father of their sin against His Son. And at every stretching-forth of their hands, they only make it obvious that they are stained with the blood of Christ. For they who persevere in their blindness inherit the blood-guilt of their fathers; for they cried out: "His blood be upon us, and upon our children" (Matthew xxvii.25). ~ St. Basil the Great

Poor Jews! You invoked a dreadful curse upon your own heads in saying: "His blood be on us and our children"; and that curse, miserable race, you carry upon you to this day, and to the End of Time you shall endure the chastisement of that innocent blood. O my Jesus! ... I will not be obstinate like the Jews. I will love Thee forever, forever, forever! ~ St. Alphonsus Maria Liguori

Most sweet Jesus, Redeemer of the human race ... look with pity upon the children of that race which was for so long Thy chosen people, and let Thy blood, once invoked upon them in vengeance, now descend upon them also in a cleansing flood of redemption and eternal life. Amen. ~ Pope Pius XI

Addendum:

Be it known to you all and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God hath raised from the dead, even by him, this man standeth before you, whole. This is the stone which was rejected by you the builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other. For there is no other name under heaven given to men, whereby we must be saved. ~ Acts iv. 10-12

The Jews, from whose hearts Our Savior did not remove the veil because of their enormous crimes but caused them justly to continue in their blindness, commit acts of shame which engender astonishment in those who hear, and terror in those who discover it. ~ Pope Innocent IV (from his Bull, "The Wicked Perfidy of the Jews," PAC, p.658.) PAC = "The Plot Against the Church" by Maurice Pinay, Los Angeles, CA: St. Anthony Press, 1967).

The Synagogue is a godless house, a collection of wickedness, and God Himself has damned it. ~ St. Ambrose (PAC, p.642).

We order all our brother bishops absolutely to suppress the blasphemy of Jews in your dioceses, churches, and communities, so that they do not dare raise their necks, bent under eternal slavery, to revile the Redeemer. ~ Pope Gregory IX.

If anyone should ask what is forbidden by the Apostolic See to Jews dwelling in the same town as Christians, he has only to read the Constitutions of the Roman Pontiffs, our predecessors Nicholas IV, Paul IV, St. Pius V, Gregory XIII, and Clement VIII found in the "Bullarium Romanun." ~ Pope Benedict XIV (Encyclical "A Quo Primum" (1751); cf. "The Kingship of Christ and Organized Naturalism", Fr. Denis Fahey, CSSP, Palmdale, CA: Christian Book Club of America, 1943, p.137).

It is fitting for Jews to serve Christians, but not for Christians to serve Jews. On the contrary, the Jews, as servants rejected by that Savior Whose death they wickedly contrived, should recognize themselves in fact and in creed the servants of those whom the death of Christ has set free, even as it has rendered them bondmen. ~ Pope Innocent III ("Etsi Judaeos," a Decretal cited by Pope Benedict XIV in the above; same page).

We exhort you not to tolerate that Jews rule Christians and have power over them. For, to allow Christians to be subjected to Jews and to be delivered to their whims means to oppress the Church of God and to revile Christ Himself. ~ Pope Gregory VII (Epistle to King Alphonsus of Castile, PAC, p.641).

The Jewish people fell from the heights because of their faithlessness and condemned their Redeemer to a shameful death. Their godlessness has assumed such forms that, for the salvation of our own people, it becomes necessary to prevent their disease. Besides usury, through which Jews everywhere have sucked dry the property of impoverished Christians, they are accomplices of thieves and robbers; and the most damaging aspect of the matter is that they allure the unsuspecting through magical incantations, superstition, and witchcraft to the Synagogue of Satan and boast of being able to predict the future. We have carefully investigated how this revolting sect abuses the name of Christ and how harmful they are to those whose life is threatened by their deceit. On account of these and other serious matters, and because of the gravity of their crimes which increase day to day more and more, We order that, within 90 days, all Jews in our entire earthly realm of justice -- in all towns, districts, and places -- must depart these regions. ~ Pope St. Pius V (From his Bull, "The Jewish Race," Feb.26, 1569; PAC, p.648).

It is known that the Jewish people are polluted with wickedness, blasphemy, and the shedding of the blood of Jesus Christ so that their wickedness has no limit. ~ St. Felix of Toledo ("On the Condemnation of the Jews," Council XVII of Toledo, Spain, Canon No. 8; PAC, p.376).

There are innumerable judgments of the ancient Fathers concerning the falsehood of the Jews ... According to the prophetic forecast concerning their stiffneckedness, theirs is the sin of Judas who, in their blindness and stiffneckedness, are harder than a stone. ~ Council of Toledo XVI, Canon no.1 "In the Face of Jewish Falsehood," PAC, p.371).

Our ways of life and those of the Jews are utterly different, and Jews will easily pervert the souls of simple folk to their superstition and unbelief if such folk are living in continual and intimate intercourse with them. ~ Pope Alexander III ("Ad Haec," a Decretal, cited by Benedict XIV as above, p.137).

When Jews are admitted out of pity into familiar intercourse with Christians, they repay their hosts after the fashion of the rat hidden in the sack, or the snake in the bosom, or of the burning brand in one's lap. ~ Pope Innocent III (PAC, p.137).

With troubled heart, We are reminded that many of those converted from the error of Jewish blindness to the light of the Christian Faith have fallen back into their former falsehood. Proceed with intensity against all who make themselves guilty of this crime, against heretics, and against those who support, protect, and defend them. ~ Pope Nicholas IV (the Bull, "With Troubled Heart," PAC, cf. p.659).

With great sorrow and mortal anxiety, We have heard that the Jews have in a Christian land the same rights as Christians, that Christian men and women live under the same roof with these traitors and defile their souls day and night with blasphemies! ~ Pope Stephen III (Epistle to the Bishop of Norbonne, PAC, cf. p.427).
